Opposition to the Cemex (previously Rugby Portland Cement, then Crown, then RMC) Plant in Rugby is co-ordinated by Rugby in Plume led by Lilian Pallikarapoulos.  She is the immediate source of most of the information in this part of the website, apart from the media links and the review of official documents.  See also Rugby Town ... (Much more than just cement) for more recent material from Lilian Pallikarapoulos.

Cemex are also intending to apply for planning permission to Cambridgeshire County Council early in 2006 for a quarry extension and a new cement works at Barrington. See the local campaign website.

Rugby Cement featured in the Channel 4 Demolition programme on 17th December 2005.  The cost of demolishing a building that is still operational stopped it receiving the attention it deserves.  This emphasises the point that inappropriate industrial developments need to be stopped at the planning stage.
